What kind of math is involved with business programming?

accounting and statistics.

business programs are typically made with very high level object oriented languages, such as python or visual basic. What kind of math is involved with business programming?
scientific programming involves calculus and higher; and is much more complicated. physics engines, intelligent programs, operating systems, etc.

business programming is on the easier side of the programming spectrum. databases are probably the most complex thing you do, for data mining and such Report Abuse

Why does the Mars Rover fail? Was it due to computer programming?

I need it for a computer science project that consists of computer disasters. If anyone knows may i pleasee have an answer:)Why does the Mars Rover fail? Was it due to computer programming?
Which Mars rover are you referring to?

Both Spirit and Opportunity are still operating, 5 years after the original mission of 3 months. I wouldn't consider that a failure.

Sojourner, in 1997, was only supposed to function for a week and it functioned for over 3 months. Also not a failure.

The Soviet Mars-2 and Mars-3 rovers failed because the landers that were to land them on Mars crashed. Whether that was a rover failure is debatable. The landers could have crashed for a number of reasons. Why does the Mars Rover fail? Was it due to computer programming?
You might be better off giving that on a miss is it for an assignment. There appears to be a lot of cover up and controversy over the results with either NASA hiding the results due to the non disclosure policy on ET life, or the Martians attacking some of the probes that have been sent there.

I know that there have been some rockets that have blown up due to programming errors where the computer systems where not upgraded to match the increase in rocket power.

Programming a Ham radio for using repeaters?

I am a new ham, just got my license. I have a new hand held radio (VX-150 Vertex). I am confused on how to program it for repeater use.

What do I need to do about offsets and tones etc? I want to have all the local repeaters ready to go in memory. ThanksProgramming a Ham radio for using repeaters?
Congratulations on your license! I don't know your HT, but they usually do the correct offset if you just tune it to the repeater frequency.

The frequencies are usually given as a single frequency such as 146.73 which is the repeater transmit frequency -- you tune the HT to this, then when you transmit, it should automatically shift your transmit down 600 KHz to 146.13.

You may occasionally hear them referred to by 2 numbers, the above example would be 13/73, so you need to tune to the second one -- I'm not sure if there's a pattern for 145 or 146, you'll have to guess -- no harm either way.

Offsets, which should be automatic by your HT are receive is down 600 KHz for frequencies below 147.00 and up 600 for over 147.00 Exactly 147.00 is usually up, but is occasionally the other way.

This information along with any needed tones are in whatever repeater directory you use. If there's a tone, you'll probably hear it mentioned either in conversation on the air or maybe in the repeater's automatic ID. You don't need the tone frequency to listen, just to talk.

Have fun, study and upgrade. There's a whole world, literally, on HF.Programming a Ham radio for using repeaters?
Congratulations on your new license. I think you will enjoy ham radio.

I suggest that you check out the Yahoo Groups VX-150 group. I think you will have the first hand experiance of quite a few VX-150 owners in this group.

When you program the radio for repeaters probably the most important thing to remember is to program the transmit offset.

There are some odd repeaters that do not conform to band plans but most do. In general repeaters below 147 mHz will use a -600 kHz offset and repeaters above 147 mHz use a +600 kHz offset.

Tones used vary by the repeater and in most areas it is best to look them up in a repeater guide. You can find repeater guides at www.arrl.org in their publications for sale. Keep in mind there are two kinds of tone squelch systems. CTCSS is the most common and us typically lised in the repeater guides by frequency. For example you might find 103.5 Hz listed for a repeater. By the way CTCSS stands for continuous tone coded squelch system.

DCS is digital coded squelch and the code is a three digit number.

Some hand helds can automatically scan for CTCSS and DCS codes from repeaters that they hear on the air but I did not see this feature listed for the VX-150 but its worth checking the manual to see if it's there.

Once you get used to it programming the radio should be pretty quick.

Another place you might find some interesting information on the radio is www.dxzone.com search for the VX-150.

I hope this helps you some.
Welcome to the hobby!

I know some radios can be a bit confusing to program. The manual should help... NO I am not being mean..... I understand... all this can be confusing... The techology can be overwhelming to newcomers.

Relax... get used to your radio and enjoy.

I might not be much help... but I hope I boost your morale... I love new hams :)

If you want to do Java development, you need to install the Java Development Kit (JDK). Go to

Download and install the latest version.

The compiler command is javac. You will probably want to add the path to the directory containing javac (depends on where you install it) to your PATH variable, so you don't have to type the full path every time.

Where to learn the basics of programming>?

Im know absolutely nothing about programming but im interested so before i learn a language where can i learn the basics from?

thnxWhere to learn the basics of programming%26gt;?
The best way to learn computer programming is to have constant access with people that have been in your shoes. I suggest you find a community that will give you support when you need it. I don't know how long it will take. It depends on how smart you are :), but I can guarantee you will learn faster then trying to cram your brain with code and programming books!

I'll leave just one site as a source that specifically helps Young and New programmers but you can find plenty of Forums out there with a simple google searchWhere to learn the basics of programming%26gt;?
    Wow,

Um, I would recommend to try to find some classes in your community,

or to read some books on programming. It really is a lot more complicated than I think what you are estimating. I would recommend though to try to develop some kind of Adobe Air application by either HTML/AJAX or a simple Iphone app, because all of their software development kits are free (SDK)
Depending on the type of applications (desktop, web, etc) you want to develop, you should first choose the preferred language. Then, learn the basics of the programming language. By the way, you can get a whole lot of free resources over the internet for C, C++, Java, etc.

    school

or any websiteWhere can I start learning computer programming?
Use the Internet to see what kinds of softwares are being written in which of the languages. Select one to your taste. Again use the Internet to find resources to begin with that language.

For gaming, C++ is used heavily. C for many more things than OS kernels and drivers; Anjuta is written in C, GNOME is in C.
    Well the free way it to determin what type of programming and language you want to learn and google it.. i.e. ';online html lesson';

You'll have to fish, but MOST things for begginers is available on the web. As you start to learn the language, start putting things together and find web sites (usually the same ones that the free lessons are on) and ask other's their oppinions. I'll tell you now that most people will say it sucks, but will say why.. But you're a beginer so it's expected. But take it as a way to learn. Usually someone will be more than happy to teach you even more if you're willing to learn.

It is not a QUICK nor EASY process, so I hope you have pleanty of time on your hands.
The best language available to start learning in my opinion is Ruby.

for example hello world in ruby:

    puts ';Hello World';

or even more simply: ';Hello World';.

    Hello world coded in Java:

    class Main

    {

    public static void main(String args[])

    {

    System.out.println(';Hello World!';);

    }

    }

And I would recommend _why's poignant guide! It's a crazy comic book that teaches you how to program in ruby in addition to programming concepts such as OO.

If you prefer a more hands-on learning experience, try hackety hack (see links below) good luck and have lots of fun!!!!
I started with Java http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/鈥?/a> You can grab IDE http://www.netbeans.org/ for free. Once you are familiar with OOP ( object oriented Programming) other languages like C++. PHP are easier to learn as well.
From your computer I guess, with the help of programming books or a computer guru friend.
I believe you can get a little bit of help if you take the Windows tutorial. Probably I would say to try to get some help on your computer tutorial becuase it teaches you many different things. I am not so sure about computer programing but at least try it. I think you may learn more than you think! I hope you come to me for more questions.

Where Do I Start In Game Programming?

I Want to start making my own games. Beginner. I have heard I can download VB, C++, C#, or java, but I don't know which one of those to do first. I don't want to download and learn the wrong language. I'm wondering if there is one program I can use that is just for game programming, And will teach me which language I need to learn first. The games I were Thinking Of starting out making would be pong, etc, then work my way up to RPG games. Not 3d right away, but maybe in the future when i have the basics down path. I don't really have any money to buy programs right now, (financial problems) but any information would be greatly appreciate it. Thanks A lot.Where Do I Start In Game Programming?
VB would be by far the easiest to make a game out of. You're not going to make anything real spectacular from it but you can do some tricks to do stuff beyond simple Pong- style games. And let's face it... you're not going to make the next Quake by yourself in your spare time no matter what language you use!

Unfortunately, VB does cost money so I'd try a class like someone else said. A great side benefit to taking a class and programming your own VB game is that you can put ';I know VB'; on your resume someday, which will make finding a job that much easier!Where Do I Start In Game Programming?
VB express doesn't cost money. Not sure why it is free but I am sure that you could use it as a starter. I myself have VB 6.0, that my brother pirated..I mean bought..for me. ; ) Good luck!

Take a class? look in the ads near you in your newspaper, see if any1 is selling a small class on how to do that. that may be one of the inexpensive ways to get started. or oyu could buy the expensive software and screw around for a while until you think you understand it and hope you dont mess up.
well you can try looking up game programming on google you will hopefully find something to engage for free or try imvu.com and buy a name and you can start to making 3D stuff for the game
if you're not even familiar with programming, start working on basic first. i think there is also a free game maker, i think you can find it somewhere on microsoft

What are the benefits of OO Programming?

Cant find this anywhere in my notesWhat are the benefits of OO Programming?
Prime benefits I've seen during my career are 1) better hiding of designs/implementation, 2)better overall structure and leveraging from existing code and 3) easier to understand a design (assuming it is done well).

    1) It allows development of code/application segments where the underlying implementation is hidden and thus the rest of the code is protected from internal design changes. Makes the code overall more stable and more maintainable.

    2) With a properly constructed hierarchy it becomes much easier to design classes that leverage from existing code speeding up the design process. From the code that uses the objects, it can much easier, often w/o any change, take advantage of new derived classes.

    3) It saves me from having to know the details of how an object is implemented. Back in the ';old'; c days you had to know how a lot was developed to properly take advantage of them an use them in the correct %26amp; most efficient manner. With a good OO design, like C#, I know longer worry about that and just the interfaces the objects expose.

Hope that helps. What are the benefits of OO Programming?
    Reusable code blocks.

    Encapsulation, which reduces complexity...

    class Clock {

    int seconds;

    int minutes;

    int hours;

    ...

    }

the encapsulation allows me to reuse the variables: seconds, minutes, hours over and over again instead of naming 1,000 unique variables.

What do I have to learn first in order for me to get to Oracle Programming?

I want to learn Oracle Programming, but my friend told me that I have to know some basics of Basic Programming, Visual Basic, etc. what is the program do I have to take prior to proceed to Oracle Programming? What do I have to learn first in order for me to get to Oracle Programming?
I've been in this field 25+ years, including time as an Oracle programmer. Now I manage hundreds, including some Oracle teams. My advice is:

    1. Be patient - this doesn't happen overnight.

    2. You should get some training and experience programming like your friend suggested, but the specific lanuage is not as important. What you need (what I would look for in a resume) is demonstrated ability to generate logically oraganized software code.

    3. Gain experience in something more than just user interface applications. Building window-based GUIs and web sites is a nice start, but not enough for a solid Oracle programmer.

    4. Gain expereince with data structures. In other words, develop software (often as part of a team) that reads, writes, and updates more than a single flat file.

    5. A nice-to-have qualification is experience writing code to interface other software packages. For example, how can a company's Help Desk system get the latest information from its personnel system? You'll find that most of this job isn't about writing code so much as analyzing, testing, and tweaking the available interfaces.

    6. If you can demonstrate the experience above, you are then the type of employee I would send for Oracle-specific programmer training. This is expensive, so see if your employer will fund it.

There is another route, but I consider this a path to ';light'; database programming - not the solid Oracle programmer earning the big salary in today's job market. You can ';grow up'; as an Oracle database administrator. Start with simple applications, perhaps using another SQL-based personal database package (e.g., MS Access). You'll learn install the core software and eventually some add-on applications. You'll learn to create and modify table structures and eventually manage alloactions and (to some degree) performance. You will learn to write and modify basic SQL statements and eventually more complex SQL programming. This will all translate readily to the Oracle environment. You'll be able to write report-generating SQL code for any Oracle database, as well as some data verification scripts. I see such resumes as solid and very necessary caretakers of Oracle databases, but not on the Oracle developer/programmer path you asked about.

Finally, keep in mind that programming might not ';click'; for you. As one colleague put it recently, ';Programmers are not created in school. First they are born programmers.'; You will know quickly if a programming career is right for you. Most people know during their first class, but it might take two or three if you get a weak instructor the first time.

Whatever path you follow, I wish you the best of luck.

The question asks, Assuming you wake at 6am and have to be at work by 9am, write pseudocode that would describing your preparation for work. Include at least two decisions and two loops. If anyone could help me write any part of this it would be greatly appreciated. Can anyone help me with a programming problem?
Pseudocode is just an english version of programming. Think of the steps you would do if you were a farmer getting ready to feed the horses. Shutting off the alarm, what to wear (a decision), what to eat, etc.

A couple of loops could be waiting until the bacon is cooked before you eat. Or waiting until the water is warm before stepping in the shower.

In the last one it would be:

    turn on shower

    Undress

    while water is not warm

    test water.

Does that help you?Can anyone help me with a programming problem?
    1. Sleep until Alarm goes off

    2. Check clock

    3. Is the time before 6:00am?

    4. If yes, hit snooze and go to step 1.

    5. If no, get out of bed

    6. Prepare for work

(this can be decomposed into smaller steps as desired)

    7. Leave for work

    8. Drive toward work

    9. Calculate approximate arrival time @ current speed

    10. Is the projected arrival time after 9:00am?

    11. If yes, then SPEED UP and go to step 8

    12. If no, then continue at current speed

    13. Are you at work?

    14. If no, then go to step 8.

    15. If yes, then stop driving.

    16. Leave car, enter building, etc.

    17. Start working

Notice the different types of loop structures. Step 1 is itself a loop (Sleep until...) implying that you cannot get to Step 2 until the condition to the right of ';until'; is met.

Step 4 is an example of a larger logical loop between steps 1 and 4 that more specifically decomposes the problem ';Sleep until 6:00am';. ';If...Else'; is perhaps the most common branching/looping structure across almost all major languages.

Sometimes in pseudocode you may want to break down a step into smaller steps, or -- in this case -- a loop of steps.

And of course 10-13 and 13-15 represent similar (adjacent!) loops.

    Hope this helped!

Is it required to know C programming lang. to get started with Java?

I haven't learned C or any other programming language. But can I directly start learning Java?Is it required to know C programming lang. to get started with Java?
    ';The two programming languages you mentioned are Object Orientated languages.';

Tgtips, I'm not sure if this was a typo on your part or you misread the questions since I stopped reading your answer right after this but C is NOT object oriented. That was one of the major motivating factors for Bjarne Stroustrup to develop C++.

EDIT: Sorry if I come off as being rude, I'm not trying to be; it just surprised me that you would say that considering you seem to be well educated in Computer Science.

    On topic:

No, you do not need to know C to learn Java; the languages are not very similar. Since you haven't learned any other programming languages before I suggest you learn Ruby or Python. They are more beginner oriented, while still being quite powerful %26amp; they will be a good introduction to programming concepts.

    Python Homepage: http://www.python.org/

Ruby Homepage: http://www.ruby-lang.org/en/Is it required to know C programming lang. to get started with Java?
The two programming languages you mentioned are Object Orientated languages. If you learn one you'll find the other quite easy to learn also, albeit they use slightly different approaches to input and output of data.

When I did a degree in programming the university saw it fit to teach Java first and then in the second year to introduce the C programming language.

So to answer your question you should find it perfectly fine to begin with Java first.

If you are planning on buying some books about Java to help you learn it, then I'd recommend a text book we used during our studies that sets a great foundation for Java titled, 'Problem Solving with Java', 2nd Edition, by Elliot B. Koffman and Ursula Woltz

There is probably a more recent edition by now but if you grab a 2nd hand copy to save a few dollars any of their books would be good.

By the way that book comes with a CD which contained IDE software for compiling projects and also some extra classes they wrote especially to accompany some of the projects they use as examples in the lessons. So if you buy the book make sure you get the CD. If you can't grab the CD they have a website mentioned in the book which contains the files you may want plus erratas to correct errors in the book missed before it hit the printing presses.

It will be the biggest test for WWE, can they somehow find a way to choose legit fans over money? if so then they will kill off the PG Era, if not.... R.I.P. WWE!How long will WWE fans put up with bad WWE programming and a PG rated WWE kiddie show?
This is a question all about opinion, so as far as a concrete answer goes, you will not find one. People will agree and people with disagree. I for one think that WWE puts on some pretty decent shows and the PG concept is better for kids. WWE should be a family orientated sport, not a glorified blood path. There is Boxing and UFC for that.
A PG rated show doesn't qualify it for a ';kiddie'; show. It's a show for everyone. I suppose you're talking about the ';kiddie'; fans and you know how long they're going to put up with it? As long as they want because unlike you, they don't care about the TV rating; they shut up and enjoy the show.
lol not for to long but i mean come on now seriously the only people that watch wwe now in days are kids because back than wrestling was ****** badazz but its changed =/ so yea maye forever cause wwe fans that put up with it are 90 percent kids ya no
I used to watch like a religion and even went to the events. I stopped in 2004 and am suprised people still watch it. I am shocked at what it has become.
It is up to the fans. If people stopped watching it would change. But everyone keeps watching so they will NOT change it.
The casual fans (mom and dad) spend more money than true wrestling fans. The PG-Era is the result.
Until the network decides to change it.
I don't know, its hard to say how long, we don't even know if this PG thing will last a long time or not.
not long. wwe is going to loose fans. then change their minds very quickly.

Getting my current programming in High Definition on my HDTV?

I'm planning on buying an LCD HDTV, and I wanted to know if it's possible to have the programming I have now in HD. I have DirecTV satellite service right now, and I know that they offer HD channels for an extra monthly fee, but if I buy an HDTV now will the programming be in HD out of the box (might have to tweak some settings), or do I have to buy extra equipment and/or extra services (component cables, etc.)?Getting my current programming in High Definition on my HDTV?
You will need to ask DirectTV to upgrade you to an HD set-top box.

You will need to buy either component (R/G/B) or an HDMI (preferred) cable to connect the two together.Getting my current programming in High Definition on my HDTV?
I would up-grade to the HD satellite box. They usually advertise free hook up, so I would ask them to connect the new box to the TV you have ALREADY bought. I checked out every make of LCD HDTV on the market, and the best looking was Sony 42'; LCD HDTV Grand Wega. It has an interface engine( Wega) to give you good resolution in digital %26amp; HD. Just a thought. Good luck. Hope I helped.
    Hi, i work for DirecTV.

in order to recieve your programing in true, High defenition, you will need the following:

a High defenition TV, High Defenition Reciever, High Def capable Satallite dish, cables for transmitting a high def signal (either component: red blue green, or HDMI) and a High defenition package on your Directv service.

while most of your programs will appear clearer purely because of the TV you are using, it will not be true high defenition unless it is on a High defenition channel, broadcasting a high def show, with all of the required components connected and working properly.

Hope i've answered all your questions, for further assistance, check out directv.com or 1800Directv

If you would start (or start again) to learn computer programming, on what would you focus your attention?

Depends really what you want to do.

There are hundreds of programming languages out there, but a handful that dominate the market.

For the web, you will often see HTML (which isn't really a programming language), Javascript, PHP, Perl, Ruby, Actionscript etc.

For desktop applications, you might see: JAVA, C, C++, C# .. etc

Arguably learning C will get you a good understanding of the basics, but it can be quite difficult to learn and master. JAVA is an extremely well known and used object oriented programming language. If you are just starting off, I would recommend JAVA because you can reapply those skills to many other languages. Python might be another good choice. I believe Python, JAVA and C are common languages taught in intro courses in University. Hope this helps. If you would start (or start again) to learn computer programming, on what would you focus your attention?
I wouldn't remove anything (PASCAL/BASIC/C/C++), but I would add a little markup language (HTML/XML/XHTML) with some XML Schema, and throw in Java and more SQL.

Why is it good that the index of the first element in arrays is zero in a lot of programming languages?

The answers before mine are pretty decent, except for their atrocious pointer math! :-)

address + (i * 32) -- How many bits in a byte? Also pointer math with arrays of structures can be a little tricky, due to a compiler optimization technique called structure packing, where extra bytes of padding may be added for alignment reasons.

v[i] == *(v + i) -- This is only correct for an array of bytes.

In C/C++, using sizeof() is a much better practice than using magic numbers for type sizes in pointer math expressions. The following will always be true for any integral type (though could be skewed by structure packing, as noted above):

    v[i] == *(v + (sizeof(*v) * i))

But back to the original question, why is it good? Well, it's good when things are intuitive and consistent -- wait, who said it was good?

I think it's good in C/C++ because you always know where you stand, all arrays are zero-index-based, no ambiguity.

Otoh, I also think it's good that VB6 arrays are so flexible, they can be declared with anything as the index base:

Dim a(47 to 100) As Int

That declares an array with base index of 47. But by the same token, it always strikes me as a little freaky that this array:

    Dim a(100) As Int

has 101 elements, not 100, because the default base is 0, and the number 100 refers to the upper-bound of the array, not the number of elements.

So I'm not sure that good or not good strictly pertain. It seems that many if not most recently developed languages are going with zero-based; my guess would be the primary motivation for this is just plain old consistency. Why is it good that the index of the first element in arrays is zero in a lot of programming languages?
    Addendum: Note that my statement:

    %26gt;%26gt; v[i] == *(v + i) -- This is only correct for an array of bytes. %26lt;%26lt;

Is not, in fact, correct. The compiler scales pointer types for addition/subtraction ops automatically. My bad. Apologies for any confusion this may cause. Report Abuse
Why is it good that the index of the first element in arrays is zero in a lot of programming languages?
Because that is how the first number is represented in binary.

It is a relic of a time when resources were extremely limited, and so programmers had to work around them. There was no room for making it user friendly.
An array variable is really a pointer. It is associated with (points to) the address of the start of the first element in the array. An array itself is a contiguous memory area --- i.e., in memory, element 1 is right after element 0, element 2 is right after element 1, etc.

It is easier to use a 0-based element list because all you have to do is take the starting address and then multiply the index by however much space each element takes.

    So, for example, if I have an array of 32-bit integers, and my array starts at some (phony decimal equivalent) address of 1000, then element 0 is at 1000 + (0 * 32) = 1000, element 1 is at 1000 + (1 * 32) = 1032, element 2 is 1000 + (2 * 32) = 1064, etc.

This holds true even if I have an array of some odd structure or object.
    Is 0-based indexing good?

I wonder. In the '70s and '80s, some BASIC interpreters had a statement OPTION BASE, that would let you switch the base (OPTION BASE 0, and OPTION BASE 1). Early FORTRAN (before FORTRAN 77) used base 1; FORTRAN 77 lets you decide (per array index).

C was the language that really made base 0 indexing popular: the equivalence v[i] and *(v + i) made it clear. ';v'; was no more than the address of the base of the vector/array.

I tend (mostly) to prefer 1 based indexing -- after all, we refer to the FIRST character of a string, and the FIRST chapter of a book. It tends to make the code a bit more self-documenting.

Of course there are some ';computer purists'; who insist on ';Chapter 0';! However, imagine an editor that needs to represent a character position - what is the ordinal name of the position BEFORE the first character? Generally, I would refer to THAT as 0, and not the character itself. This reasoning leads one to basing on 1. After all, the language should model the problem domain. After which, the next step is to allow independent specification of the index range. It's in FORTRAN 77, damn it, and THAT was 30 year ago!

The only language that 0 based indexing is defensable in is C (and, by extension, C++) but those are almost ';too the iron'; languages.

Absolutely a computer science degree is what you want to get if you want to be a programmer. If you take computer science as a major you will take several programming classes (probably starting with java) and will learn the basics of how computer programing relates to how a computer works, how databases are connected and how they work, how operating systems are connected. You will gain a whole picture of computer programming. It is important to get this full picture to be able to program effectively. If you are interested in game programming you should also take classes in graphic design and this sort of thing but remember game programming is an incredibly competitive field and having a good programming background to fall back on is a good idea.Getting a Bachelor degree in Computer Science, correct for programming?

Java Netbean programming: How to make the app window be automatically maximize at run time?

Thanks allJava Netbean programming: How to make the app window be automatically maximize at run time?
    In code:

After creating your JFrame, call setExtendedState(JFrame.MAXIMIZED_BOTH) on it. May not work on all platforms, but definitely works with Java 5 on WindowsXP.

    In NetBeans form editor:

Make sure the outer JFrame is selected. On the right, you should see that the Properties view shows ';[JFrame]'; on the title bar. About a quarter of the way down you should see a property called ';extendedState';. Click on the ';...'; button to the right, and the editor will pop up. There is no custom editor, so you have to select ';Custom code'; from the combo box. Enter ';javax.swing.JFrame.MAXIMIZED_BOTH'; and then click ';OK';. Unfortunately, this doesn't work all by itself, because the NetBeans form editor always adds ';pack();'; at the end of the auto-generated ';initComponents()'; method. So the best place to do it, as I see it, is to switch to ';Source'; view and edit the run() method inside the main() method. Take your JFrame class (or subclass) and manually call setExtendedState(JFrame.MAXIMIZED_BOTH).

Who was more entertained by TNA Impact than WWE programming this week?

TNA airs one show a week, while WWE has Raw, ECW, Superstars, and Smackdown! and TNA Impact was still a better show than WWE combined. Does anyone else feel the same way?Who was more entertained by TNA Impact than WWE programming this week?
    1. TNA was pretty good(all returns and 1 debut)

    2. RAW was just embarassing

    3. ECW was ok

    4. ECW is getting better(Hart Trilogy)

    5. SD! was good too,the rey attack and the ending

    6. I am not interested in WWE SuperstarsWho was more entertained by TNA Impact than WWE programming this week?
TNA seems like a better show because it fresh, has different faces and seems like they know how to change the show up without having to move their superstars to other shows, like WWE does. WWE uses the same story lines over and over until they dry out. TNA adds new faces and tries different feuds. But remember TNA is owned and ran by guys that have been in the business for years. I'm not saying WWE doesn't know what they are doing, because i think they are doing a great job. It's just TNA is a fresh face, and remains to be fresh and new. WWE always seems to be the company ';setting the bar'; with Wrestlemania and The Hall of Fame. But TNA is the ';other show'; it might seem like they are always picking up the superstars WWE ';throws away'; but it's working for them. If you think about it, each of those superstars have fans. And those fans might not ';switch'; shows, but they will be tuning in. Until WWE keeps and gets more new superstars, i feel TNA will always feel like a fresh face. Also TNA is not afraid of change. For example: They just got the new Legends title, yet WWE only has the ECW championship on ECW. A great place where they couple put the Cruiserweight title and the hardcore tite. Also they should of left ECW the way it was. The old ECW, the Extreme Rules side. That would of shown that WWE isn't afraid of change but also respects the ';Extreme'; fans of old ECW. But like I said before, WWE is the WWE. Until they start hurting in ratings, they will stay the way they are because that's the way its been for years and years.
TNA was pretty good, I liked it better than Raw, but i found ECW entertaining. (Evan Bourne vs Mark Henry and Hart Trilogy and Jack Swagger vs Tommy Dreamer and Christian).

But this week my favorite was smackdown (as always) because its just plain out more entertaining. I loved The Great Khali and R-truth, the World's Greatest tag Team looked impresive against Cryme Tyme, Umaga vs John Morrison was awesome, and i was shocked when jericho was dressed as a Mysterio fan then attacked him.

So overall, I understand why you would say TNA was better this week, because of the debut and returns of 3 great stars, and i loved Styles vs Daniels, but Smackdown takes the cake this week
it wasnt better than all programing combined to me right now im at a tie at my favorite wrestling program between impact and smackdown. Impact was better than raw cuz i didnt even watch raw thats how bad i thought it would be and it was better than ecw but its a tie with smackdown right now for me but once edge loses the belt(hopefully not for a long time) that is when impact will be my outright favorite.
Right now, for me TNA Impact %26amp; WWE Smackdown are tied at first place. ECW comes in at a strong %26amp; solid second place.

WWE RAW :-( Oh how the mighty have fallen. It's pathetic!

WWE Superstars...I only watch it when it has wrestlers %26amp; matches that interest me.
    definitely NOT.

TNA only has to do booking and work for ONE show a week. WWE has to do RAW, SMACKDOWN, ECW, AND NOW WWE SUPERSTARS.

do you think it`d be easier to do 4 shows or 1 show a week?
Ive been looking forward to watching Impact more than WWE shows since TNA Impact first aired in Australia
I do. I can't wait 'til TNA comes here in 15 days.
NOT ME. WWE IS THE STUFF.

How did we get from 00001111 programming?

    to languages like JavaScript?

so in the beginning there were no programming languages and programmers had to do the tedious work of writing programs in machine language. I would like to understand what makes it possible to move to english-like languages such as JavaScript?. Is it the addition of hardware, the discovery of better methods (what exactly?) or other things? How did we get from 00001111 programming?
You would need to take a multitude of college classes to understand this stuff. It is not something that you can fit into a Y!A answer. How did we get from 00001111 programming?
Computer can not read the human language. Computer have his own language using Binary Code, Hex..., and the Oct.., Code, These codes works as numbers and alphabet, and also special characters. The compiler interpret your code and tells you if its okay to execute the program.
It's just software. There was an evolution from machine code to assembler to high level languages.

What skills in computer programming do you need?

Just need to knowWhat skills in computer programming do you need?
Some math, a lot of logic, problem-solving skills, and the ability to take a basic concept and break it down into details, such as how to build a kite - not just the steps, but the steps in a proper, sequential order; and then to be able to take these steps, write them out with as few and as concise words that you can (this is called ';pseudo-code';), or to be able to draw a diagram representing these steps (this is called a ';flow chart';), and then, after you have determined the best course of action to resolve a problem (such as ';How do I keep track of my employers?';), then you sit down in front of a computer and write some code from the pseudocode and/or flowcharts you designed.

Of course, you WILL need to learn a language, such as Visual Basic (probably VB.NET), or one of the ';C'; family of languages (probably C# - pronounced C-Sharp), but that only comes after you have made a complete analysis of the problem you desire to create a program for.

(Please understand one thing, learning a computer language does not make you a programmer any more than learning math makes you an accountant. There truly IS more to it than just knowing a computer language).

Good luck, and happy programming :-)What skills in computer programming do you need?
Great analytical skills, to analyze a problem and design a program or system to fit it.

Great communication skills - you will need to explain your design to others. You will also write documentation when designing the system/code.

Good work ethic - you need to be dependable.

Good memory - you may get a phone call in the middle of the night when one of your programs coughs up a hairball, and you might have to explain how to fix it to someone without any knowledge of this application. (Not that I've had that happen with MY programs, of course)

Able to work independently - you may be given an assignment and sent to your office to work on it without a lot of guidance or support.

Difference between learning of c through problem solving and principles of programming languages?

Well, one is the act of learning a programming language by solving problems (not sure how you'd go about doing that, but hey) and the other are the set of principles that define a programming language.

your question makes no linguistic sense whatsoever

  • What's the best programming language for performing image analysis?

In your opinion anyway.. the one I'm currently using is extremely slow when dealing with arraysWhat's the best programming language for performing image analysis?
Matlab is very easy to learn and is definitely well-suited for image analysis, but it would depend on your access to Matlab or willingness to purchase it. Gnu Octave is an open-source program/language acclaimed to be very similar to Matlab - might want to check it out along with Scilab, another open-source alternative.

Python is a good language for that type of programming as well. You can find libraries for image editing and the language lends itself to the task. The third link below includes a list of libraries that make a good Matlab replacement.

I remember hearing about a good C image processing suite but can't remember which it was. All I can find is CImg or VXL.

Something like ImageMagick is available in many languages, but I'm not sure if it's what you're looking for, I think it's more geared to effects than analysis.

Which one is better to take Database Administrator Course or JAVA programming course?

I was trying to enroll for a JAVA programming course, but for some reasons the schools keep on pushing me to get an database administrator course. I know it cost more to take the database administrator course, but is it true, that DBA has more demands than JAVA programmers.Which one is better to take Database Administrator Course or JAVA programming course?
I would agree that Database Administration is more of a stable and secure field. Java is popular for right now, however as time goes on there will be something bigger and better to replace Java.

Databases, however will be around for a long time. I would assume that in taking a Database Administration course, you will learn about several types of Databases, as well as the proper way to design a Database.

With Java, you learn only the Java programming language and that is it.

You need to decide what you want to do. If programming web pages and Java applets is what you really want to do, then take the Java course. If you are looking for a good career and job security, then go with the Database Administration course.Which one is better to take Database Administrator Course or JAVA programming course?
It depends on what you're interested in for a career. You can make good money doing either. I'm a programmer, and I think DBAs are under more stress than developers, because they have more day-to-day operational responsibilities.
Your question should only be answered by you and not anyone else if you want to be a programmer then you need to learn programming languages and not just JAVA either.

If you want to be a DBA you should take more then one class in fact you probably should take several certifications.

Either way in the computer related industry you will need to make the commitment to endless learning in order to get to the top and try to hold your position. You really should choose a career that you love doing so that way it is never work and always fun.

Recently I had to do a salary survey for a presentation at a local school. I can tell you that at least in my area Database Administrators make quite a bit more money then programmers of equal experience level. That should not be a deciding factor for you it is meant only as a helpful tidbit of information.
I think it depends on what you like to do personally, and what you would enjoy doing more for a career. I personally don't think there is that much more demand for DBA's than developers, but that may vary depending on where you live. Personally, I would take the Java course. I think it is easier to get into an entry-level application programming position than an entry-level database position. As far as what the school is recommending, I think you stated the reason they are pushing you to take the DBA course yourself : ';I know it cost more to take the database administrator course';. Remember, a school is a business, and even though you are there to get an education, their primary goal is to achieve profit. I say go for the Java.
depends on what you want to do. If you want programming you need a programming class. You always need to understand databases but DBAs are all about administering it. You have to ask why you wanted JAVA in the first place.

What is the best programming language?

A link to a compiler for it please. Thanks. What is the best programming language?
This question will spark of a lot of debate and not come to any resolution.

The answer is dependant upon what you need to create. A website? a cross-platform application? a Unix service? a robot? ... The list could go on for ever.

Once you have learnt a programming language, you not go off and make anything. You will always have to select the programming language after knowing your requirements. What is the best programming language?
Totally depends on your skill and what you're planning to do. I mean COMAL is great for a beginner learning but not a lot else.

Visual Basic is good for people with a bit more experience but who still aren't fully fledged programmers . . .

So yeh totally depends on you and what you're trying to do.
I would say .NET technology is the most advanced and friendly programming language.
That depends on your skill and what you want to do with it.
I think it depends on time C was the best 90's then VB,JAVA now .NET

Does anyone have an idea on where i could start, what websites or information i could look at to help and also if there was and courses in the UK i could go on to help me better my knowledge. just to let you know i am only 13 so i cant get a job yet.Where is the best place to start for a beginner on programming on computers? Note I'm only 13?
The key is writing and writing and writing programs.

I would recommend the C language for the first time. It is not a too ';friendly';, thats why it is good for starting. It let's you understand the basic problematics of data management and algorythms.

    http://www.physics.drexel.edu/students/courses/Comp_Phys/General/C_basics/

After that you have understood these things (some years later) I recommend to try an object-oriented language. It let's you to use concepts that are more familiar with the real world. I don't recommend an OO language for start, but for serious purposes it is almost certain that you will use an OO language. I recommend C++ (which is evolved from C).

    http://www.cplusplus.com/doc/tutorial/

I recommend CodeBlocks development environment for your self-made tutorial programs: http://www.codeblocks.org/

It is good for both C and C++.

Note: Search for people who can give you exercises if you out of ideas about what to write.Where is the best place to start for a beginner on programming on computers? Note I'm only 13?
Make the best possible grades in all your subjects now, and then when you want to attend college, you'll be accepted, and it's in college (or a private vo-tech school) that you'll receive the REAL education you need. Unfortunately, if you don't make high grades NOW, they won't accept you in their college later.

But focus your energy on classes that require logical thinking, such as math (algebra, geometry, calculus, etc), and you MIGHT use them, but even if you don't, it will sharpen your brains.

I wish you the very best luck in your endeavors, but remember one thing: Learning a computer language does NOT make you a programmer any more than learning some math makes you a certified public accountant or bookkeeper.

Math is the TOOL for bookkeeping, and programming languages are just TOOLS for programming.

Good luck, and happy programming :-)

different languages have different benefits and short comings, so which programming language to use is usually based on a case by case basis. C is good because it allows the programmer to allot memory location and sizes, allowing very precise programming. most OS will be written in C or another language of a similar level. From my knowledge, most Linux programs are written in python because it is extremely powerful and easy to use.

There can be no single dominant language. For example Java is good because it is lightweight and fast, so it can be used effectively on cell phones and cars, but could not be used to make a solid operating system. What programming language is used by Linux?
First off, Linux is built on a mix of languages. While it is true that Linux is built aminly off of C, there musst be other languages involved to run it. Starting off, there is C++ incorporated into Linux. There are multiple sites where you can download the Linux sourcecode. Next, you MUST put assembly language into the ensemble. This is the only way to execute your software, because your computer does not read your source code and execute it. Now, about C being the language of the future, no, it is more of a mid-level language. C++ would be more of a language of the future, but they are both good to know. Also, since Linux is open source, there are many different types out there, including Red Hat and Ubuntu. So there is really no single language.

If I plug component cables from my cable box to my HDTV, do I really get programming in 1080i?

I justed upgraded to the HD-capable box from Buckeye Cable. I was expecting a big difference in quality on the HD stations, but it seems like I might only be getting 480p.If I plug component cables from my cable box to my HDTV, do I really get programming in 1080i?
You should call your cable company to make sure that they are indeed sending you HDTV signals. The output of your cable box will be either 1080i or 720p; you may not be able to conrol it because your cable box may be working only in ';pass through'; mode. The output format is whatever the original source is. Therefore if you are watching CBS or NBC, it outputs 1080i and if you are watching ABC or FOX, the output will be 720p The TV should accept either one and convert it to its ';native'; format (which you say is 1080i--this implies you have a CRT type set). You may have to subscribe to HD service as an extra from your cable company to get programs in HD, even if you have a digital cable box.If I plug component cables from my cable box to my HDTV, do I really get programming in 1080i?
NO YOU WONT.... if you have a digital box the most you will get is the digitalm signal..you need to have a HD converter box or havea hdtv with the converter built in. you need to use an hdmi cable for the best possible picture then you need to subcribe to the cable companies hd service so much for just plug and play..but it is whorth it the picture is awsome
Really depends on your TV. If you are driving it with the component video cables that this usually takes, you probably have to switch to an alternate input to view it.

If your TV is not capable of displaying 720 or 1080 it is a waste of time.
It depends on your TV and its settings. What is the capability of your TV? Do you have a 1080i? If so, you can adjust the settings on your television. If not, you should at least be able to adjust to 720p.

Programmers professionals: how did you practice all of programming languages?

did you take diploma or courses?Programmers professionals: how did you practice all of programming languages?
I graduated from university which gave me the basics, more of how to learn and what the environment is about. Being out in the business there is very little opportunity for dedicated training time so you usually

    a) learn on the job

    b) learn at home through your own projects

    c) plead to take a quick course.

Courses only teach you the very basics. No one comes out of a course really being an expert. It is what you do following the course that matters. How you apply it at work or at home.Programmers professionals: how did you practice all of programming languages?
While you learn something about programming languages in school the only way you learn is on the job training. There is nothing like having a problem in front of you that must be solved in a short amount of time. It forces you to learn in a hurry. Applications are so widely varied in the real world that it is impossible to teach you all you need to know in school.

I am now retired but when I worked I had the opportunity to work with, and learn, 8 different languages. Some much better than others, all of them mainframe languages. I have sense learn visual basic but would be hard pressed to develop anything sophisticated.

No matter how you learn about programming doing it is the best teacher. Any training you get from what ever source only is a beginning. One thing to keep in mind...learning programming languages is very much like learning any language you are not familiar with. It takes doing it to make it yours.
The important thing is to learn programming - then learning a new language is just learning a different way of saying the same thing. If you start by leaning languages, without learning programming, learning a new language is starting from scratch.
I taught myself to program in BASIC using a game book, then went to technical school to learn all of the formal stuff. Most of my experience is in COBOL (yes, I'm a dinosaur :) ), but I know most everything from Assembler and Fortran to C and Perl. Still haven't delved into Java,C+ or .NET.
start off with some classes on the languages you want to learn. then create a program in one, and then try to code the same thing in another programming language

In the heart of Linux, it is based on C. There are libraries of code that make the Windows, buttons and so forth and those libraries are C++ or C. In between those worlds are libraries of wrappers. A program made with C++ might command a library of C code.

Software, like a game or word processor you run on a Linux box can be java, C++, C, OpenGL, and the list goes on. There may also be short, utility scripts written in PERL or Python, besides the Shell Script, which you can think of as sorta like MS-DOS, but more powerful. For example, Linux shell commands can read the whole hard disc looking for one word. What programming language is used by Linux?
I think android is actually ';kind of'; Java based... more specifically running a Dalvik VM. But yes, a lot of the components are based off linux software like the window manager and what not. Google decided to (or eventually will) open source android, that's why the linux community is embracing it so much.

As for C being the dominant language of the future I for one don't believe that ONE specific language will dominate every other. Different languages are good for different things and different levels of programming.

It could be just about any interpreted language (Perl, Python, awk, etc.) but terminal themselves commands are executed directly by the shell. So it's probably shell script.

Which shell scripting language it uses depends on the hash plane given in the first line of the script. GNU bash is most common for GNU/Linux systems, but csh is also popular for scripting, and ksh is a script-oriented superset of bash (or rather, bash is a user-oriented subset of ksh).

On the one hand, I like Delphi. A lot. On the other hand the answer to your question is the same as the answer to the question about best OS: What do you want to do? The example there would be a question I just answered about Linux, with two other regular Linux questioner answers. The question is not important. The first said, give up. You won't like Linux. Mine began, I second this guy. The third expressed shock that we of all people would say that. We read the question, you see. And we accept that people don't all have the same priorities.

Delphi is an object-oriented derivative of Pascal which used tokens or words close enough to English to create codes which could be compiled efficiently, and were easy to understand. If it wasn't well written, it wouldn't run. There are other derivatives -- Oberon or the Modula family -- which are, like Pascal, used in education, but Delphi is a commercial derivative which is great for real world applications.

C also creates efficient code. Awesomely efficient code. It's widely used in embedded systems and while there is a little C++ in the Linux kernel there is VERY little C++ code there. It was created by engineers and the syntax itself is compact and full of acronyms. This is something C++ has inherited while with objects and namespaces it has come into its own as a language which works in most modern computing environments.

Java is a cross-platform language which is good at creating user interfaces. The Dot Net family of languages are philosophically the opposite. While they are created to run on and to run a consumer-oriented OS they are exactly for that OS. There are some things which in Java take a little work, they can do much more easily -- but only on machines which run that OS.

I could go on. http is itself a language. It has about four to six tokens or commands. And I attended a lecture recently which showed off some really awesome things.

The best programming language to learn is the one which will be most helpful to you.

    Hi,

This is one of the most f.a.q by many of my juniors and as a beginner this is one of the most common question. So I have collected a list of articles and sites that clarifies this. Check out this below link for the same..

    http://markthispage.blogspot.com/2009/06鈥?/a>

Also, if you want to learn more, go to home page of the blog and check the programming section -- I have collected lots of good links about all the popular programming languages -- Hope this helps.
Ask that question 10 times you'll get ten different answers. It depends what you want to do, where you intend to work.

for web sites (a good start): php is most mainstream, ruby offers lots of flexibility... javascript may be an option for client side scripting,.. on windows, asp.net is an option, flash can be powerful too

for games, applications: C++ is mainstream but Java is mainstream for phone applications

    in artificial intelligence: lisp/ prolog

Delphi is nice, but it does not have as much ground as ten years ago... and the gui designers have caught up in such a way

Basically langages are like tools in a toolbox which help you tackle different problems... each one has its strengths... you dont want to use a screw driver to hit on a nail... although some may be heavy enough to do the job... the same way you probably dont want to use a hammer to drive in a screw

I don't know much about computer programming but i want to learn php and mysql to start making website!?

Do i have to know any other program language before i start learning php and mysql?Maybe html?I don't know much about computer programming but i want to learn php and mysql to start making website!?
Maybe computer programming first? Learning a language without first learning programming is a really bad idea. (Once you know programming, php syntax is kind of trivial - you should be able to start using it 5 minutes after you install it.) If you just learn a language, you have a language to do it in, but you don't know what ';it'; is. (I know English, but that doesn't make me Shakespeare.) Knowing programming means that learning a new language is little more than learning the syntax of that language. If you don't know programming, you can't sere the commonalities, so learning a new language is a whole new learning experience.

To learn programming, I recommend http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/0鈥?/a> I think it's the best book ever written for the purpose (no, I'm not the author) and you can buy it for less than it'll cost to ship it. I've never taught a programming course without requiring that every student own a copy - and read it. (Once you understand most of it, you'll know more about programming than most people earning their living by programming do.) Then play with php. (Install a web server on your computer - XAMPP is free and it's the same software the commercial sites use - Apache, MySQL and PHP.)

Once you're comfortable with php (the help file has many good examples, the php web site has a lot of information, and there are many tutorial sites for php), you can start learning SQL. (I use adodb5 for database connections, but php's mysql or mysqli routines work also.) The ';Learn ... in 21 days'; books are good, but you can get pretty much the same information on the web. (You can get good tutorials on anything on the web - programming, horse care, bomb building, stargazing - name it and someone has probably put up a tutorial on it.)

BTW, php runs on the server (so does the SQL you use to access the database). For code that runs on the browser you'll need Javascript (and you need code running on both). There are tutorials for that all over the place too. (And don't be proud. If you see code that's something like what you want, copy it and modify it to do what you want. You learn by seeing how others do it. Just give credit (a little notice in a tiny font at the bottom of the page) for code you use and, if you're going to lift a piece of code whole, ask for permission first. Most of it's so generic that the webmaster won't mind - he pieced it together from other sites too.)I don't know much about computer programming but i want to learn php and mysql to start making website!?
If you are going to use PHP to create a website then you will also need to know HTML since PHP will be used to generate HTML pages. If you are going to be using mysql then you will also need to know SQL which is the language used to query databases. Finally you may want to learn some Javascript to be able to do things on the client side in your page.
Yes, it is a good advice to know HTML before starting to study/learn PHP and MySQL. But I would recommend you to study XHTML 1.0 instead of HTML 4.0. Or if you want to be with the latest standards and technology, learn XHTML 2.0 and HTML 5.0. Once you master these technologies, you will feel more confident when studying PHP, and after that MySQL. I also strongly recommend you to use CSS (Cascading Style Sheets). JavaScript could help you a lot too when designing web sites, and if you learn XML, wow you would know really a great set of web technologies. So there is no time to lose, start studying now!

Html and BB might help if you plan on making banners and other things for your site. BB code is good for posting/making images if you wanted it to be like a forum. If you wanted you could try to java script a short game, or a clip for a banner. You could probably Google ways to make a site. Like a walk through but nothing would be custom to your liking. My recommendations would be php, html, bb, and a bit of java. A little bit can go along way ;).

    Hope this helps,
