Why does the Mars Rover fail? Was it due to computer programming?

I need it for a computer science project that consists of computer disasters. If anyone knows may i pleasee have an answer:)Why does the Mars Rover fail? Was it due to computer programming?
Which Mars rover are you referring to?

Both Spirit and Opportunity are still operating, 5 years after the original mission of 3 months. I wouldn't consider that a failure.

Sojourner, in 1997, was only supposed to function for a week and it functioned for over 3 months. Also not a failure.

The Soviet Mars-2 and Mars-3 rovers failed because the landers that were to land them on Mars crashed. Whether that was a rover failure is debatable. The landers could have crashed for a number of reasons. Why does the Mars Rover fail? Was it due to computer programming?
You might be better off giving that on a miss is it for an assignment. There appears to be a lot of cover up and controversy over the results with either NASA hiding the results due to the non disclosure policy on ET life, or the Martians attacking some of the probes that have been sent there.

I know that there have been some rockets that have blown up due to programming errors where the computer systems where not upgraded to match the increase in rocket power.
